the picture not taken

There was a time when I thought that I needed pictures of everything.  But one day I realized that I was watching life through the lens and I was missing the moment.  With digital photography, it gets even harder.  Now I want those pictures right away.  No longer content to wait for the roll to be finished, for the one day or one hour developing.  I want them now.  But two days ago, I set my camera down for most of the day.  I snapped a few shots here and there but I let my eyes and my heart take in the view.  I don’t think I will ever forget the way she looked when she walked down the stairs or the way he looked at her when he saw her in that beautiful dress.   No camera around could have caught the emotion in that moment.  And I wouldn’t have it any other way.  This is a memory for my heart.  A memory that will be captured in my words.  A memory so precious that it doesn’t need a picture.
