Not too long ago, probably in June, I decided I wasn’t going to sign up for any more reading challenges. I was particularly disappointed in the fact that two years in a row I did not complete the Book Awards Challenge. And the books on my lists were books I really did want to read.
Then, I found a few challenges that I just could not pass up and I am happy to say that I have done a lot better with these. In the last 6 weeks I have finished three books for the Spice of Life Challenge and my first book for the Random Reading Challenge.
For the Spice of Life I read A Homemade Life, The Splendid Table: How to eat dinner, and The School of Essential Ingredients. I enjoyed all of these books and have put the Splendid Table cookbook on my list of books that I need to own. I am thinking of using it for a weekly cook something new challenge.
This last week I also read Bread Alone which could qualify for the Spice challenge as it is about a woman who returns to baking when her marriage falls apart but it was also my first read for the Random Reading Challenge. When I started this book, I wasn’t sure if I would finish it. It felt a little too fluffy but it is set in Seattle and that was a great draw for me. I even came to like the main character after a bit and while the ending was easily anticipated, it was a very nice story.
I have The Little Giant of Aberdeen County all ready for my second random read but I really must finish a book that I am reading for work. Our admin retreat is next week and we will be discussing it so The Little Giant will have to wait another few days.
